Google’s online storage affectionately dubbed “Gdrive” is supposed be available after years of rumors. TGDaily had an article yesterday that I think may be at least a little over ambitious about the effect the new Google Drive will have on the future of computing:
Chicago (IL) – Google Drive, or Gdrive as it is better known, has to be the most anticipated Google product so far. When it arrives, Gdrive will likely cause a major paradigm shift in how we use computers and bring Google one step closer to dethroning Windows on your desktop.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about the possibilities based on the success and awesomeness of Gmail, Google docs, and their maps. But I don’t think that cloud storage will cause much of a paradigm shift in anything. The technology already exists…Google may have an innovative and more useful way of implementing it, bu tit’s not going to change they way 90% of people do anything. I may hold some stuff online…but I have a real problem putting anything of value in a location I don’t control. I don’t trust anyone with my stuff, especially a company willing to bend to the will of governments. I don’t think that they’re evil but it causes one to pause…or maybe it doesn’t if you’re not into the whole privacy thing.
